Episode 15: Remote Learning 101 with Matt Miller

Welcome to the Teaching Literacy Podcast! I hope this episode finds you healthy and that your teaching has thrived in spite of current events.

I’m very excited for today’s episode. It’s becoming clear that we are in middle of a landmark event for education, worldwide. COVID-19 forced us all to turn on a dime and migrate all of our instruction online, in a very short amount of time.. If that describes you- in any capacity you deserve a pat on the back. That was a monumental task, and you were able to do it in less than 100 hours. Well done.

In the past few weeks, two important things have happened. One, teachers have been able to come up for air (at least a little bit) and have a bit more mental bandwidth to see how their online instruction is going. And two, the realization is starting to sink in that what we’ve done the last few months may actually be a dress rehearsal for the fall.

So as educators everywhere are thinking deeply about how they can best support their students during COVID-19, the next logical question is ‘how can I become a better teacher using remote methods’ My guest today can help you make that happen.

His name is Matt Miller and he’s an author, speaker, podcaster, and Google Certified Innovator. Matt joins me on the podcast today to discuss material from a FREE online course he recently developed called Remote Learning 101. Matt and I have a great conversation about the move online, delivering quality instruction, learning management systems and how to support students with slow or no internet

It’s a great conversation full of tidbits to take to back to your classroom. After the shows over stick around for my two cents.
